What qualification do I need to become a mortgage broker in Australia?

To work as a mortgage broker, you need a Certificate IV in Finance and Mortgage Broking (FNS40821). Many aggregators and lenders also recommend or require the Diploma of Finance and Mortgage Broking Management (FNS50322) for more advanced or self-employed roles.

Are the courses nationally recognised?

Yes. Both qualifications are delivered through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and meet all compliance standards set by ASIC and industry aggregators.

Can I complete the course online?

Absolutely. Both the Certificate IV and Diploma courses are available in flexible online formats, allowing you to study at your own pace with full trainer support.

How long does it take to complete the course?

The Certificate IV typically takes 4–6 weeks to complete, depending on your availability. The Diploma may take 6–10 weeks, especially if you are working while studying.

Do I need any prior experience to start?

No prior experience is required to enrol in the Certificate IV. It is designed for beginners and those transitioning into the finance and lending industry. The Diploma is ideal once you have industry experience or want to take on more responsibility.

Will I be supported during the course?

Yes. You will receive access to experienced trainers, learning resources, and practical case studies. Support is available via email, phone, and scheduled calls throughout your learning journey.

What is the difference between the Certificate IV and the Diploma?

The Certificate IV is the minimum requirement to become a broker and focuses on foundational lending knowledge. The Diploma goes deeper into business management, compliance, and complex lending scenarios, making it ideal for those looking to grow their broking business or manage a team.
